5 Tips to keep your kitchen sink looking new

A beautiful stainless steel kitchen sink can add that touch of accent to your kitchen remodel.  However, beautiful as it may be, all sinks can scratch, chip or even stain with age and daily usage.  Here are 5 tips to keep that shine and keep it looking new even after years of use.

  1. On a daily basis, clean your sink with warm water and dishwashing soap.  Daily maintenance will go a long way.
  2. Avoid abrasive materials and brushes that can scratch your sink.  Scratches can become magnets for grease, soap scum and dirt.
  3. Don't throw away those lemon or orange peels just yet.  Rub the skin of the peel against your sink.  This will help keep the shine of the stainless steel.
  4. To help keep the drain clean, mix 1 teaspoon of bleach with 1 quart and pour it down the drain at least monthly.  This will help clear any leftover food remnants your drain may be holding.
  5. User baking soda once a week will help break up stubborn clogs and sanitize the drain.

Warnings:

  1. Never mix bleach and ammonia.  Mixing them can cause toxic fumes
  2. Wear rubber gloves when working with strong cleaning agents
  3. Be sure not to over use the proportions of bleach to water, the more bleach you use may be harmful to your sink in the long run
